「D.★P. Season 2 (DP2)」 began filming in earnest in May 2022, wrapped up in November 2022, and was announced earlier this year as part of Netflix’s 2023 lineup.

Then let me briefly introduce the preview.

Trailer content

In the trailer, the story of the military’s still repeated absurdity and the grim reality (see the last episode of season 1) that does not change even after the incident of Private Jo Seok-bong was revealed.

And you can see Private Kim Ru-ri’s locker on the poster. Sadly, his locker, which he wrote down his resolutions to do his best in the military, is stained with blood with countless bullet marks.

DP2-등장인물

In the preview of 「D.★P. Season 2 (DP2)」, Private Kim Ru-ri returns to the dormitory after working on guard and hears the sad news of his friend Private Jo Seok-bong through a TV broadcast. At that moment, as if possessed by something, it begins with a poignant scene where he shoots indiscriminately at his colleagues in the inner class who were bullying him. The first motif of season 2 appears to be the incident of Sergeant Lim, who went on a gun rampage at GOP barracks in 2014.

In another scene, characters who are constantly bullied from somewhere appear, and several scenes showing the actors’ passionate performances along with shocking scenes are revealed.

And the locker of Private Jang Sung-min, a newly appeared caricature, is shown, and if you look at Private Jang Sung-min’s graffiti locker, who worked as a “drag artist” before joining the military, it is expected to deal with discrimination and harassment against sexual minorities in 「D.★P. Season 2 (DP2)」.

“Drag” originally derives from the theatrical slang used in the 1870’s to describe a long skirt or cape sweeping the floor. Recently, it refers to the act of decorating one’s appearance to deviate from the general gender definition. It is common in musicals. Drag artists sometimes think of all drag artists as sexual minorities because they express a variety of things that go beyond the dichotomy of women and men, but that’s a false bias.

Private Jang Sung-min, who has lived such a life, seems to have been bullied within the unit as his past was eventually revealed.

And just before pulling out the grenade pin, you can see the back of a man who appears to be Private Kim Nu-ri, who tried to desert after shooting. Soldiers surround him and point guns at him, and the main character Ahn Jun-ho is also in the space.

The characters in the trailer

Actor Moon Sang-hoon, who plays Private Kim Ru-ri, will also appear in 「D.★P. Season 2 (DP2)」. Following the final scene of season 1, the story of 「D.★P. Season 2 (DP2)」 seems to begin with the appearance of private Kim Ru-ri, who ran away with a grenade after shooting. In the end, he is surrounded by actor Jung Hae-in, who plays Private Ahn Jun-ho, and the search team, but he seems to be in a tense situation just before pulling out the safety pin of the grenade he had.

Another main character, Koo Kyo-hwan, who plays Ahn Jun-ho’s best member Han Ho-yeol, receives a call from an executive saying, “Don’t miss it.”

And following the previous work, two executives reappear, Kim Sung-kyun, who plays Gunnery sergeant Park Beom-gu, who is nervous about the sudden situation, and Son Suk-ku, who plays Capatain Lim Ji-seop, an aide to the military police captain. It looks a little closer than last season.

In other scenes, we also see soldiers wearing glasses who are being severely beaten up.

And in another scene, we see a soldier howling in a dark underground space. He is Choi Hyun-wook, the new member of 「D.★P. Season 2 (DP2)」, who plays Shin Ah-hwi.

Shin Ah-hwi, who is covered in blood and sobbing in the basement, is a squad leader, but he seems to have caused the accident without enduring another abuse.

Ahn Jun-ho and Han Ho-yeol running after someone in the middle of ITAEWON. And there is a person who cries with stained eye makeup. He is Bae Na-ra, who plays Private Jang Sung-min. Probably deserting from bullying by the same platoon members and hiding somewhere and eventually getting caught by the ‘D.P.’

DP2-등장인물들

And you can see explosives exploding at the main gate of the guard post, a mother sobbing with her son’s portrait, and a police officer blocking the bereaved family. In the next scene, Ahn Jun-ho fights on the train.

Magnificent background music flows, and actor Ji Jin-hee, who plays Brigadier General Koo Ja-woon, appears in an urgent situation.

Ahn Jun-ho’s fierce fight on the train seems to be the character who bullied Shin Ah-hwi in the first scene. The trailer video ends with the two main characters struggling to catch deserters and Ahn Jun-ho with bruises all over his body.

By the way, here’s a question! What would happen if Private Jo Seok-bong of Season 1 was alive? Because there was no mention of Jo Seok-bong’s death in the last scene of season 1. I feel like he’s probably alive because the news reports him as a suicide attempt, not a suicide.

Then Private Kim’s choice would be very unfortunate.

Just looking at the short trailer video, 「D.★P. Season 2 (DP2)」 seems to be much bigger than its predecessor, so let’s take a closer look at the main cast.

Main cast information

등장인물-정해인-구교환

Jung Hae-in

Age: Apr 1, 1988 (35 years old)
Body: 178cm, 70kg,
Blood type: A
MBTI: ENTJ

He played Ahn Jun-ho of the 103rd Infantry Division, who became a member of the arrest group ‘D.P.’ in recognition of his keen observation in the military police. This season, he was promoted to private. He is usually calm, but he is a hot person who defies when he sees something unfair.

Koo Kyo-hwan

Age: Dec 14, 1982 (40 years old)
Height: 174cm
Blood type: A
MBTI: INFP

He plays Han Ho-yeol, the leader of the 103rd Infantry Division’s deserter arrest team. And at first, we weren’t on the same team as Ahn Jun-ho. He was briefly hospitalized at the Armed Forces Capital Hospital after being stabbed during an operation to arrest deserters. Park Sung-woo, who was on the same team as Ahn Jun-ho, will return to the unit as the head of the arrest team after transferring.

Then, he teamed up with Ahn Jun-ho to chase the deserters. Han Ho-yeol takes special care of Ahn Jun-ho from the first meeting. Because at that time, there was a system in which high-class soldiers protected new soldiers.

등장인물-김성균-손석구

Kim Sung-kyun

Age: July 5, 1980 (43 years old)
Height: 178cm
blood type: A

He is a member of the Military Police Investigation Division of the 103rd Division and plays Gunnery sergeant Park Beom-gu, an investigator in charge of military escape. Park Beom-gu grumbles and curses every moment on the outside, but he is a warm-hearted person.

He always has a war of nerves with Lim Ji-seop, but he is doing his best to ensure that the ‘D.P.’ group and deserters return safely, and he always cares about Junho and Ho-yeol and supports them.

Son Suk-ku

Age: Dec 14, 1982 (40 years old)
Body: 178cm, 73kg
Blood type: B
MBTI: INFJ

Appears as Captain Lim Ji-seop, an aide to the military police commander of the 103rd Division. In Season 1, he is a typical cheeky, narrow-minded character who cares nothing for his performance and promotion. He sometimes has a war of nerves with Park Beom-gu, but he is also the person who set the stage for Ahn Jun-ho to grow.

등장인물-최현욱-배나라

Choi Hyun-wook

Age: Jan 30, 2002 (21 years old)
Body: 181cm, 70kg
Blood type: O
MBTI: ENFP

In 「D.★P. Season 2 (DP2)」, he played Shin Ah-hwi, the squad leader of the frontline search party as a newly joined member. Details are not known until season 2 comes out, but if you watch the preview of crying and shouting, you seem to be in an unexpected situation after running away or causing an accident because you can’t endure someone’s abuse.

Bae Na-ra

Age: Jan 4, 1991 (32 years old)
Body: 185cm, 72kg
Blood type: AB

Newly joined in 「D.★P. Season 2 (DP2)」, he plays Jang Sung-min, who escaped from the military due to bullying by his colleagues while working as a drag artist in the past. Given that his locker was plastered with ridicule and criticism of his gender identity, he seems to have been bullied a lot because he was a sexual minority, or because he was misunderstood as a sexual minority, and eventually deserted the military. And if you look at the design of the military uniform he wore in the locker picture, it looks like it was before season 1, and I guess it was the person who stabbed Han Ho-yeol.

등장인물-문상훈-고경표

Moon Sang-hoon

Age: May 9, 1991 (32 years old)
Height: 180cm
MBTI: INFP

He plays Private Kim Ru-ri, a member of the Army’s 18th Armored Brigade Maintenance Unit. He enlisted with Private Jo Seok-bong, who marked the last episode of season 1, but the deployment of the unit was different. However, it is clear that they are close enough to meet Jo Seok-bong on vacation.

When he heard the sad news of Jo Seok-bong, he was in a state of sadness and shock, but his seniors bullied him harshly. In response, Kim Ru-ri ended season 1 with a scene of shooting a gun inside the home office.

It’s the first deserter of 「D.★P. Season 2 (DP2)」, and I think it’s going to be the first armed deserter.

Ko Kyung-pyo

Age: Jun 11, 1990 (33 years old)
Body: 185cm, 72kg
Blood type: O

He played Corporal Park Sung-woo, the head of the deserter arrest team, until Han Ho-yeol returned as a member of the military police of the 103rd Division.

He joined the ‘D.P.’ thanks to his father, the head of the district office, but he is not interested in catching deserters and only thinks of drinking and playing whenever he has time. Even when the deserter committed suicide, he drank and played, and eventually was dismissed from the ‘D.P.’ group and transferred to another unit to become a general soldier.

Conclusion

「D.★P.」 is a work that has raised a big topic in Korean society by accusing of beatings and absurdities that are still prevalent in the dark.

Producer Han Joon-hee said, 「D.★P. Season 2 (DP2)」 will continue its unfinished story in season 1. And in season 2, I vowed to show a story that is one step further than season 1.

Beyond Season 1, when he was somewhat on the sidelines and couldn’t actively fight absurdity, he said he would draw the stories of the main characters who responded more strongly to such reality.

In the second half of this year, there are many works waiting, including 「Sweet Home 2」, 「Gyeongseong Creature」, 「Mask Girl」, 「A Time Called You」, 「Song of the Bandits」 ect.

Among these great works, I’m very excited to see what story and composition 「D.★P. Season 2 (DP2)」 will captivate viewers.

Please look forward to 「D.★P. Season 2 (DP2)」 on the 28th, which will bring a heartbreaking topic to Korean society.

In addition, attention is being paid to whether it will be able to gain an upper hand in the competition against Disney Plus’s new film 「Moving」, which is expected to be the best casting line and story.
